Eddie Howe provides injury update on Newcastle trio after Chelsea loss

Newcastle faced off with Chelsea in the quarter-final of the League Cup on Tuesday, looking to make it to the final for a second year in a row.

But when all was said and done, the Magpies lost a penalty shootout and are now out of the competition. Their attention now turns to the Premier League this weekend when they face Luton away. Newcastle are 8/13 favourites with bet365 to pick up the win.

Eddie Howe provides injury update on Newcastle trio

As well as being knocked out of the League Cup, Newcastle also suffered a few injury concerns vs Chelsea.

The recently returned Sven Botman came off at half-time vs the Blues but has not picked up any type of injury.

Elsewhere, Eddie Howe said it was too early to know how badly injured Emil Krafth and Anthony Gordon were on Tuesday night.

The Newcastle boss stated: “Botman was a planned substitution after 45 minutes, a nice step for him. Krafth and Gordon got knocks.

“Emil was too sore to continue. He’s got a nasty gash on his shin, which is quite sore at the moment.

“Anthony is the same. I thought it was a really poor tackle on him. It was the type of tackle you don’t want to see, taking one of our attacking players out of the game. “He’s very sore at the minute.

“Should it have been a red card? It’s too difficult to say live and I haven’t seen it again, but I’m taking opinion from other people and they say they thought it was.”
