Eden Hazard Trolls Tottenham Over Their New Stadium

Tottenham have had to wait a long time for their new stadium to open, but they finally lifted the curtain for their first Premier League game on Wednesday night, beating Crystal Palace 2-0. While it has been a time for celebration at Spurs, some have still taken the opportunity to laugh at them, including Chelsea star Eden Hazard, who couldn’t resist a dig of his own.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men returned to winning ways after a run of poor form, with Pochettino also stepping into the dugout after a ban. Son Heung-Min and Christian Eriksen made history by netting the first senior goals, while Crystal Palace ha s been left needing one more win to secure their place in the division for next season.

Other than having to wait months more than previously anticipated to make their bow, there doesn’t seem to be much to complain about for Spurs. Their new 62,000-seater stadium is the most modern in the world and cost around £1bn, securing their place as one of the biggest clubs in the world.

That is something that, through gritted teeth, even Hazard couldn’t deny, but he did point out that Chelsea are still far superior when it comes to trophies won.

“Tottenham for two or three years have been one of the best teams in England,” he said.

“I don’t like that, but we have to accept it. For the Premier League it is good – new stadium, top players.

“But Chelsea, we won a lot of trophies. They have not. I hope this continues.”

He then added that he thought the hype around Spurs was beneficial because it allowed Chelsea to go about their business quietly

“We are quiet, in fifth place. We go game by game. Chelsea is a top club. We like this challenge, so we will go and try to win because we want a top four place.”

The Belgian was speaking after Chelsea eased past Brighton with a 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge, to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
