There was further embarrasment for the FA and Fabio Capello today as it emerged that Paul Robinson the Blackburn goalkeeper has withdrawn from the England squad to play Hungary on Wednesday .
Capello named Robinson as one of three goalkeepers in the squad alongside Ben Foster of Birmingham and Joe Hart of Manchester City . However Robinson released a statement on Sunday saying "I’ve taken the decision to retire from international football with immediate effect". It is believed that Robinson had not spoken with Capello before releasing his statement .
The friendly against Hungary is aimed at preparing the England team for the vital European Championship qualifiers that get underway in September with games against Bulgaria and Switzerland .
Capello has made a host of changes as expected to the squad and brought in Jack Wilshire , Kieran Gibbs and Theo Walcott from Arsenal as he attempts to re-focus the squad with younger players . Also back in the squad is Darren Bent of Sunderland who was unlucky not to go to the World Cup in South Africa after scoring 25 Premier League goals for Sunderland last season .
Capello now has alot to prove to English fans after his selections and tactics were questioned during England’s embarrasing World Cup performances .
Bookmakers expect England to win easily however on Wednesday with Boylesports offering the top price of 2/7 . Surely there will be few takers at that price but the draw is available at 4/1 with Bet365 and Hungary at 11/1 with Paddy Power . Given the current state of the England set up a victory for Hungary is probably the best bet ! .
Paddy Power also offer a £50 free bet exclusively for www.freebets.com .
