Energumene likely to miss the season

Jump racing fans were dealt a blow today with the news that the two-time Champion Chase winner Energumene will likely miss the season.

Owned by Tony Bloom, chairman of Brighton, Energumene won the Queen Mother Champion Chase in 2022 and 2023 and has amassed over £1 million in prize money.

However, trainer Willie Mullins told the Sporting Life - “Unfortunately, Energumene has a hind leg injury, and he will probably be out of action for the season.”

Energumene had been prominent in the antepost betting market for next year’s Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival before today’s news.

El Fabiolo, also trained by Willie Mullins and winner of this year’s Arkle, is the current favourite for the 2023 Champion Chase.
