Erik ten Hag among favourites to be sacked as Manchester United match unwanted 28-year record

Manchester United saw off Newport County in the 4th round of the FA Cup on Sunday but the manner in which they did so has left more questions than answers over Erik ten Hag’s future.

At the time of writing, Erik ten Hag is 7/1 with BetVictor to be the next Premier League manager to leave, with only Roy Hodgson and Jurgen Klopp currently having shorter odds than the Dutchman.

Manchester United match unwanted record

Manchester United took an early 2-0 lead vs the struggling League Two side in the cup tie, but found themselves back on level terms before the half-time whistle.

It is the first time Manchester United have conceded two or more goals in an FA Cup match against a side from a lower division since February 1996 vs Sunderland, and the first time against a side from the fourth tier since February 1970 sv Northampton Town.

On a somewhat more positive note, United went 2-0 up in the opening 15 minutes of an FA Cup match for the first time since January 2020 vs Tranmere.

Man United are back in FA Cup action on February 28 vs Bristol City or Nottingham Forest.
