Manchester City faced off with Everton in Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off, looking to go temporarily top of the table.
When all was said and done, City came away with a 2-0 win but after Liverpool beat Burnley in a 3 pm tie, the Sky Blues remain two points off top spot with a game in hand. Man City are next in action on Saturday evening vs Chelsea and are 1/3 to pick up the win with bet365.
Erling Haaland sets Premier League record
Manchester City struggled to break Everton down in the opening stages of the game but a late brace from Erling Haaland handed them what, in the end, proved to be a comfortable victory.
After scoring twice on Saturday, Erling Haaland has now scored 50 goals in 50 Premier League starts, more than in any other player’s first 50 starts in the competition.
Haaland was assisted by Kevin De Bruyne for his goals vs Everton and the duo have earned high praise from Alan Shearer for their connection:
“Everton were doing everything right. They were getting men behind the ball, there were just no spaces whatsoever,” he said. “Even when they were getting into dangerous positions, you could see how many bodies were there. There was nothing in that first half, then De Bruyne came on, Bernardo Silva came on, Kyle Walker… and then suddenly things changed.”
“All of sudden Everton have got to commit men forwards but watch as De Bruyne gets the ball [ahead of the second goal], watch the run of Haaland - he’s off and it is almost a telepathic understanding between them, he knows he will find him. Just brute force, power and class to finish it off.”
