EUFA U19 Championship: Fabio Capello Ignores England’s Future Stars
Online bookmakers are offering free bets on Fabio Capello’s 2011 European Championship campaign, but first England’s youngsters are competing in their own European competition.
The country’s finest young footballers take on Spain this afternoon in the semi-final of the EUFA U19 European Championships in Normandy, France.
Following the failure of Capello’s 2010 World Cup bid with England’s ‘Golden Generation’ there has been an outcry from disgruntled fans for Fabio to rebuild the team.
The cream of English youngsters are currently in France with Noel Blake’s Under-19 squad preparing to face Spain for a place in the European Final.
Capello has come in for more criticism for deciding to give the game a miss and for ignoring the opportunity to cast his eye over the young English talent.
Many of the U19 squad are with Premier League clubs, but such is the nature of English football they will get few opportunities to display their skills on Premier League grounds.
The England boss will get few opportunities to witness the upcoming players for future England squads and has caused concern by passing up the chance to take in the U19 Championships.
The England youngsters qualified to meet Spain with group victory over Austria 3-2, a 1-1 draw with favourite’s France and unlucky 0-1 defeat to Netherlands.
