European Tour Golf: Edfors Refreshed For Masters Challenge
Conditions undoubtedly played a big part in the outcome of last week’s Open Championship at St Andrews and those who have journeyed on to the Bro Hof Slott for the Nordea Scandinavian Masters may well face another battle with the elements.
High winds have been known to batter the spectacular Swedish course so new Open champion Louis Oosthuizen should feel right at home, though he can backed at 28/1 with Bet365, sportingbet and Victor Chandler which is more than twice the odds of early market leader Robert Karlsson (a general 12/1).
Karlsson finished alongside Americans Dustin Johnson (a general 18/1) and Rickie Fowler (a general 20/1) in 14th place at St Andrews but all three are fancied to do better in the Scandinavian Masters, which also sees the return to action of veteran Ryder Cup player Jesper Parnevik following back surgery.
Raphael Jacquelin (a general 33/1) has a splendid tournament record but not on this relatively new course and more interesting may be fellow Swede Johan Edfors. The 34-year-old didn’t qualify for the Open but that may well have been a blessing in disguise for a player whose confidence has been occasionally known to suffer following a bad round. Edfors hasn’t won on the European Tour since 2006 but showed a welcome return to form in the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond earlier this month which suggests Bet365’s 45/1 quote for the Scandinavian Masters could be simply too big.
