Tottenham faced off with Luton Town this past weekend, securing a 1-0 win despite going down to 10 men in the first half.
That win, coupled with Arsenal beating Manchester City, means Tottenham sit top of the Premier League during the October break. Tottenham are 11/1 to win the league with bet365.
Will Tottenham win the Premier League?
Following the latest Premier League action, Paul Merson wrote his weekly column for Sky Sports.
The former Arsenal man discussed the Tottenham victory over Luton and when doing so, spoke about the Lilywhites’ title chances.
Spurs have no European football this season, which may give them an advantage over the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal, but Merson still does not believe Tottenham will win the Premier League:
“It was a funny game!” he wrote for Sky Sports about the match at Kenilworth Road. “I was sitting there in the first 15 minutes thinking, ‘If Harry Kane was playing now, the game would have been over,’ given the number of chances they missed.
“Then Spurs did not look like scoring after that, bar the goal. But fair play to them, going down to 10 men and digging in and getting a result, you have to hold your hands up. I know Luton are right down at the bottom, but it is still hard. Spurs gave away a few chances, but in the end I thought they dug in and showed a new side to Tottenham.
“So fair play to them, they are top of the league at the moment - will they stay there? No, but that is not the point.
“If they were to get in the Champions League next season, then that would be an unbelievable season for Tottenham.”
