Both Crystal Palace and Watford have tasted FA Cup Wembley losses, ironically to the teams in the other half of the draw, with Watford losing to Everton in the final in 1984 2-0 and Crystal Palace heartbreakingly losing 1-0 to Manchester United in a replay after a real seesaw game saw both teams come from behind to play out an exciting 3-3 draw in the 1990 final.

Neither team have ever won a major trophy and both might fancy their chances against a stuttering Manchester United or Everton if they overcome their opponents in the semi-final.

Crystal Palace started the season in good form and Alan Pardew’s men picked up a few useful scalps, including beating Chelsea and Liverpool away. However, a string of bad results saw them plummet towards the bottom of the league and seem to have just stayed above the real relegation dog fight among the three teams below them.

Watford have certainly defied expectation and were one of the favourites to drop down a division at the beginning of the season. Quique Sanchez Flores has created a very hard working team which gives a good account of itself against any opponent and the ceaseless working and running paid off in the last round when they dumped Arsenal out of the competition as the Gunners attempted to become the first team in one hundred years to win the cup three times in a row.

Interestingly, both Crystal Palace and Watford have beaten each other away from home this season, which demonstrates the unpredictability of both teams.
