Football: Goals On Sunday

High On Entertainment

Played 24 and failed to keep a clean sheet in 19 of them. That is the tale of the tape for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga this season and although they have plenty of attacking prowess, their generosity in defence has stopped them from mounting a genuine title tilt.

Which means Marco Rose’s men will have to do with being the best of the rest and with the black and yellow of Dortmund once again playing the role of bridesmaid on a domestic front, there is no chance to play the bride on the continental stage either.

Because after being dumped out of the Champions League before the turn of the last year, their parachute into the Europa League took them to Glasgow and after being paired with Rangers in the knockout phase play-off round, their exit into the competition was as swift as their entrance.

Which means all Dortmund’s eggs are now back in a Bundesliga shaped basket and after being held to a 1-1 draw away at Augsburg last weekend, they will now look to return to winning ways against Mainz 05.

However, it is not the outcome that we are interested in at the MEWA Arena, instead we want at least a goal at each end and as the first part of our BTTS Acca, this is currently priced at odds of 4/6 with bet365.

Italy Step One

One of two stops to Italy now and the first of those takes us to Florence, not necessarily because of Fiorentina but the team that they play host to on Sunday and with Verona failing to keep a clean sheet in all but six of their Serie A outings this season, goals could be on the menu this weekend.

Played 27, scored and conceded in 21. That is the current lie of the land for Verona and with them lying 9th in the Serie A standings, their current average of 1.92 goals per league game, is a rather impressive return in front of goal.

However, this Verona outfit are also known for their generosity at the other end of the pitch and with 1.59 goals against them on average, it is fair to say that their Serie A encounters have been far from dull this season.

While with Fiorentina currently lying just a single position ahead of them in the league table, the outcome of this fixture could also have ramifications in the race for Europe and a win for either, would enhance their chances of a top-seven finish.

Once again though, a win for either is of no real interest here. Instead, we want to sniff out the goals and as the second part of our BTTS Acca at odds of 8/13 with bet365, our noses are placed firmly in the direction of the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

Italy Step Two

Another trip to Italy now and like Verona, Sassuolo also have failed to keep a clean sheet in 21 of their 27 Serie A outings this season and this means that they have a current BTTS percentage rate of 78%.

A figure that will be music to the ears of goal getters this weekend and when you look at Sassuolo’s current record in Serie A, their trip to Venice on Sunday has all the hallmarks of an entertaining clash.

Played 27, Won 9, Drawn 9, Lost 9. Something that points to equilibrium. Add the fact that they have both scored and conceded 45 goals in equal measure and surely there will be a goal at each end against Venezia.

When it comes to goals on the Venetian front, Paolo Zenetti’s men are averaging less than a goal a game this season. However, they are also conceding 1.80 at the other end and although Sassuolo will fancy their chances of maximum points, we fancy their chances of something else.

That something being scoring at least once for themselves and allowing Venezia to do the same. While if that does prove to be the case, bet365 will be ready to pay out on odds of 8/15 and that takes our Sunday Euro BTTS Acca to odds of 3/1.
