Football: Romelu Lukaku and Football Memes That Matched Chelsea Star

Romelu Lukaku and football memes that matched Chelsea star

Over the past couple of weeks, Romelu Lukaku has found himself the subject of some rather funny football memes. Fans are always prepared to poke fun at or enjoy the misfortune of a Premier League footballer – it’s like their own style of schadenfreude.

Over the Christmas period, the Chelsea star gave an interview, in which the Belgian talisman dropped a hint he would be prepared to move back to Inter Milan in the near future. The interview didn’t go down too well with Blues boss Thomas Tuchel, and Lukaku was later reprimanded.

Nevertheless, the interview sparked a flurry of memes and jokes that spread over the internet, including how Lukaku was more INTERested in Inter than Chelsea, and how he prefers to use INTERnet explorer instead of Google Chrome as his web browser, and the end of them don’t appear to be in sight. There have been many football memes of late surfacing over the web, and we have highlighted four that caught our eye.

Man Utd suffer after Liverpool nightmare

If we rewind to October, Manchester United capitulated spectacularly against Liverpool. Old Trafford hasn’t always been a happy hunting ground in the past for the Reds, but they cruised to a resounding 5-0 win thanks to a hat-trick from Mohamed Salah, and the visitors were 4-0 up going into the interval.

You could see the contrast in emotions when the cameras panned to Sir Kenny Dalglish and Sir Alex Ferguson watching on from the stands, and there were some disconsolate looking faces on the United bench. It was a day United fans won’t want to be reminded of, but the memes that came out of it were hilarious.

Harry Maguire torn to shreds by Roy Keane

As we probably all know by now, Roy Keane is never afraid to lay into anyone, especially if it is Manchester United players. Harry Maguire was seen sliding to his knee while scoring on international duty for England against Albania, and that incurred an angry reaction from Keane.

Maguire has had his fair share of critics, but when Keane admitted he “would be fighting Maguire if he was on the pitch”, well it perfectly summed up Keane’s feelings.

Pep Guardiola’s bald issue

It’s nothing new that the Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is lacking somewhat in the hair department, or rather is follicly challenged. And some quick-witted fan tried to draw a comparison between Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne.

Guardiola was given hair superimposed, and it seemed that the resemblance was rather uncanny. We wonder whether Guardiola saw the funny side of it!

Arsenal’s Invincible time warp

There are probably a few Arsenal fans out there that wish they could go in a travel capsule and head back to the halcyon days of the early 2000s when the Gunners were a force to be reckoned with.

In the hours leading up to New Years’ Eve 2021, there was a hilarious meme that showed how Gunners supporters appear to be stuck at the end of the 2003/04 season, while everyone else is moving forward. Of course, the 03/04 campaign was when Arsenal became the first Premier League team to go the entire season unbeaten – a feat that hasn’t been matched since. How Arsenal would love to rewind the clock rather than be mere also-rans.

Lukaku on the move?

After the Lukaku controversy, it begs the question of whether he will leave Stamford Bridge before the January transfer window closes. While his form has been mixed, it remains to be seen whether he will jump ship.

Intriguingly, you can get odds of 6/1 with BetVictor for Lukaku to head back to the Serie A and re-join Inter before deadline day. The next few weeks will make for fascinating viewing.
