Jockey Barry Geraghty has opted to ride Greatwood Hurdle favourite Vaniteux in Sunday’s feature race at Cheltenham.
Having been on board no fewer than 31 winners at the Cheltenham Festival, Geraghty certainly knows his way around Prestbuty Park and the news of his decision has resulted in Vaniteux being cut to a general 7/2 for the race, although Winner are offering enhanced odds of 6/1 to new customers.
The Irishman piloted Jezki to success in the 2014 Stan James Champion Hurdle at the festival before winning again in the Racing Post Champion Hurdle at Punchestown and was the preferred booking for owner JP McManus with AP McCoy out injured. But he is the stable jockey for Nicky Henderson and will ride for his handler aboard Vaniteux, a horse with decent course form having finished third in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.
“Nicky has confirmed Vaniteux for Sunday and while it would be nice to ride Jezki I can only be in one place at once.” Geraghty told the Racing Post. “He ran a good race in the Supreme and there could be more to come from him this season, his work has been very good.”
The decision leaves Jezki without a rider for Sunday’s Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown, although Mark Walsh is expected to step up and pilot the 6-year-old against the re-opposing Hurricane Fly.
