Giroud Reveals Which Clubs He Rejected To Join Chelsea

Chelsea’s winter window striker signing has revealed which clubs he rejected to sign for the Stamford Bridge club.

Olivier Giroud sealed his £18m move from Arsenal on deadline day, bringing to an end Antonio Conte’s search for a big man. The Italian will hope Giroud can to make full use to of the quality service Alvaro Morata seems unable to take advantage of recently.

Giroud was a key part of the striking merry-go-round which saw Michy Batshuayi head to Borussia Dortmund on loan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang arrive at Arsenal for a club record fee.

In fact, the latter’s arrival spelled the end for Giroud at the Emirates, compounding Didier Deschamps’ encouragement for the Frenchman to leave the club in search for first team minutes.

Giroud didn’t have a shortage of options, however, and has revealed which clubs he rejected in favour of staying in London.

Speaking to French press, the big man said: “Dortmund were interested but for a loan deal. There was Sevilla and my agent also received a phone call from Roma. But my choice was quite clear and obvious when I knew that Antonio Conte wanted to work with me.”

Giroud slipped to third in the striking pecking order with the Gunners after Aubameyang arrived, but now faces just Morata in direct competition for a starting berth at Stamford Bridge.
