The second of back-to-back European Tour events in South Africa starts tomorrow at The Club at Steyn City in Johannesburg.
This course is going to be a good test, and the 6th hole is a monster par-5 playing at 651 yards. Nevertheless, we should still expect to see some low scores posted.
Pablo Larrazabal will be on a high after nudging out Jordan Smith and Adri Arnaus in a play-off last weekend at the MyGolfLife Open to claim his sixth DP World Tour title.
Anyway, Freebets is on hands to take you through the Steyn City Championship, and we have rummaged through the markets to pick out three juicy tips for you to ponder over.
Jordan Smith to come up smelling of roses
Although he has only triumphed once on the DP World Tour previously, Smith has been putting himself in contention each week. He may well have been disappointed to come up short last week at the MyGolfLife Open, but he has been playing some sublime stuff, and he just seems to be getting better.
Smith has been on an upward trajectory so far in 2022, and he has enjoyed three top-10 finishes on his past five outings on the European Tour. With the Ryder Cup a year away, he will be looking to catch fire, and perhaps get some attention from Europe’s newly appointed captain Henrik Stenson.
Anyway, if you are looking for an Englishman to get behind, Smith is blazing a trail, and he is trading as the joint-favourite at 14/1 with Paddy Power alongside Dean Burmester. While it can be dangerous backing the favourite in golf, it is worth parting your money with Smith.
George Coetzee to make a good impression again
We have taken a bit of a liking to George Coetzee. Of course, it would be nice for there to be a homegrown winner, and he will be cheered on by the patrons.
Coetzee finished fourth last week with a score of -21, and while he may not be in the winner’s circle come Sunday evening, he could well end up having another good week. Unibet is pricing Coetzee at 9/2 to finish in the top five once again, and that could be a tempting flutter.
Marcus Armitage to get off to a flyer
Marcus Armitage is also one of those players that have caught the eye this season, and although he has been in Smith’s shadow at times, he has been quite consistent so far this season.
He finished in T11 at the MyGolfLife Open, and he’s trending in the right direction. If you fancy him to finish as the first round leader, then you can get a long price of 40/1 with bet365, which is worth a punt, and he probably ought to be shorter than that.
