IPL Cricket: Friday 1st & Saturday 2nd April Preview

TATA Indian Premier League

Friday April 1 – Saturday 2, 2022

One match bet which catches my eye is the 6/5 on offer with William Hill for Rajasthan Royals to beat Mumbai Indians at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in the first of Saturday’s double header.

Rajasthan started the competition down the list of title winners with many bookmakers. Now I’m not saying they are going to win it, though I can see them making the top four.

Their squad has definite strength and balance, and they demolished Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday when posting 210-6 and defending it comfortably.

Mumbai, meanwhile, lost their opener against Delhi on Sunday when failing to bat around Ishan Kishan’s 81 not out at the top of the order. Their 177-5 was overhauled with 10 balls remaining.

Their middle order looks a touch light, and I can see Rajasthan’s bowling attack of Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Ashwin, Trent Boult and the like causing them more problems.

Sixes galore in second helping on Super Saturday?

You may have read prior to the start of the IPL that I tipped Gujarat Titans as an outside bet to hit the most sixes in the IPL at 10/1. To me, they have plenty of power.

Now, they didn’t get off to a spectacular start in that sense on Monday, hitting five in their win over fellow newcomers Lucknow.

I’m hoping that was just them warming up!

They are priced here at 13/10 with bet365 to hit the most sixes in their match with Delhi Capitals in Pune on Saturday afternoon, and I would be keen to take that price.

Matthew Wade, captain Hardik Pandya, David Miller and Rahul Tewatia all have a liking for clearing the ropes. Delhi aren’t exactly short of power, but I’m just not sure they should be 20/23 favourites for this market.

Shikhar Dhawan just keeps on keeping on

The experienced India international left-hander is with his fifth club in his IPL career, making 43 on debut for Punjab Kings on Sunday as they beat Bangalore.

Opener Dhawan is the second leading run-scorer in the history of the IPL with 5,827 runs from 193 appearances, behind only Virat Kohli (6,324).

He played nicely against RCB and has been price boosted from 11/4 to 10/3 by Betfair to be Punjab’s top run-scorer in tomorrow’s clash with Kolkata Knight Riders at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

That price, for a player with current form and so many past runs behind him, has definite appeal.
