Italian Super Cup Up For Grabs

Although Super Cups are usually their preserve of pre-season, they are now doing things a little differently on the continent and with both Spain and Italy staging theirs this evening, we are in for a midweek feast of European football.

With the Spanish equivalent now a four-team format, the winner of the 2022 edition will not be awarded until Sunday evening and with the Italian version being held in a traditional one-off setting, either Inter Milan or Juventus will be celebrating in just a few hours.

Because this evening, it is last season’s Coppa Italia winners who must now travel to the home of the defending Serie A champions and current leaders of the Italian top tier, as Inter Milan play the role of hosts this evening.

Simone Inzaghi’s men may only be a point clear at the top of the standings, but they do possess a vitally important game in hand and after getting the better of Lazio last weekend, they are not just unbeaten in their last eight, they have won each of those encounters.

Something that certainly puts them in good stead for this evening and with home advantage also in their favour, it looks as if the Super Cup will not be leaving Milan for Turin later tonight.
