JP McManus has added another Cheltenham Festival ante-post favourite to his star-studded battalion in the shape of Prengarde, currently a best price of 6-1 to land the unorthodox event in March.
The six-year-old was trained in is homeland by the legendary Guillaume Macaire and racked up a five-timer of wins at Compeigne in 2021, the most recent of which came when landing odds of 10-11 in a Listed event on heavy ground at the course in November by eight lengths.
JP McManus’ racing manager Frank Berry confirmed to the Racing Post that Prengarde will enter training with cross-country maestro Enda Bolger. Already a five-time winner of the race through the likes of Spot Thedifference, Heads Onthe Ground, Garde Champetre and Josies Orders.
Easysland Set for Stable Switch
The owner’s other high-profile cross-country star, Easysland, is also set for a stable switch. Easysland was an impressive winner at the Festival in 2020 for David Cottin, but will leave France for a new life under the care of Jonjo O’Neill.
Easysland had a campaign blighted by illness and injury when attempting to defend his crown last season and could only muster a second-placed finish to Tiger Roll and is currently a best price of 8-1 with William Hill to regain his crown.
Cheltenham legend Tiger Roll can be backed at 6-1 with Paddy Power to gain his sixth Festival triumph, and jointly heads the market with Prengarde in some books.
