Lisandro Martinez is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery to fix a metatarsal injury. The defender faces up to three months out, meaning a return before the end of the year is unlikely.
On a more positive note, Raphael Varane was ruled out of Brentford’s visit to Old Trafford at the weekend but Erik ten Hag insisted the issue was a ‘minor’ one, and Varane is set to be involved when club football resumes in a fortnight:
“He couldn’t make the game, he had a minor issue,” Ten Hag of Varane’s absence against Brentford. “If it was two or three days later he could have made it but now it was too short.”
Luke Shaw is currently sidelined with a muscle injury and is not expected back until November after it was reported in August he would miss 10 weeks’ worth of action.
Finally, Sergio Reguilon was close to returning from his muscle injury against Brentford but Man United ultimately opted against risking him. However, the left-back is expected to be fully fit for the trip to face Sheffield United.
