La Liga: Barcelona v Real Mallorca Betting Preview
Barcelona face Real Mallorca on Sunday evening as the Catalan giants look to kick-start their season.
Pep Guardiola’s side have been inconsistent by their own high standards during the opening part of the 2010/2011 campaign.
They struggled away at Champions League minnows Rubin Kazan in midweek, the side who famously beat them at the Nou Camp last season.
But the La Liga holders, significantly strengthened this summer with the signing of Spain World Cup winner David Villa, will most likely be favourites to be lifting honours domestically and in European action come May.
Although they were deservedly beaten 2-0 on the opening day against newcomers Hercules, the team look to be building in confidence as a number of new acquisitions settle in.
Frenchman Thierry Henry has moved to America, but his loss should not be felt too badly after they bought Villa.
There were rumours that former Barca midfielder Guardiola may quit as manager after they were dumped out of the Champions League by then Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan last spring.
But he will now surely be hoping that his charges can add to the list of honours they’ve laid their mitts on in recent years.
Lionel Messi is 13/5 to score first in this one with bookmaker bet365, with team-mate David Villa at 11/5.
Barcelona v Real Mallorca is live on Sky Sports 2 with kick-off at 6pm.
