La Liga: Real Sociedad v Racing Santander Preview and Team News
As expected, Real Sociedad’s form has been a little up and down since promotion back to the Primera Division but Martin Lasarte’s men have shown more than enough to suggest they’ll be spared a relegation battle at the end of the season and come into their clash with Racing Santander in reasonable form.
After a run of four defeats in five games, La Real got their act together against struggling Deportivo in their latest league game at Anoeta, netting three times without reply and, although they subsequently lost the first leg of a Copa del Rey tie against Almeria, bounced back to beat Malaga at La Rosaleda last weekend.
Lasarte’s team undoubtedly rode their luck against Malaga but again showed how effective they can be on the counter attack and they are a difficult team to break down once getting their noses in front.
Santander produced their best performance of the season last week to thrash northern rivals Osasuna 4-1, lifting some of the pressure that had been building on coach Miguel Angel Portugal after the Cantabrians had lost five of their opening eight league games.
But the visitors are again likely to be without Alexandros Tziolis, Adrian Gonzalez and Oscar Serrano against Real and their form away from home has been wretched so far this season.
The Basques’ top scorer Raul Tamudo is a general 6/1 to score the game’s first goal and Real Sociedad can be backed to come out on top at 6/5 with William Hill.
