Leicester City got their Skybet Championship campaign off to a winning start when they came from a goal down to beat Middlesbrough 1-2 at The Riverside. Second half goals from Danny Drinkwater and Jamie Vardy overturned the one goal lead from Lukas Jutkiewicz much to the delight of manager Nigel Pearson who told the BBC “We scored two very good goals and could have had a few more, we were well worth the win.” The Foxes are looking to respond to last season’s play-off semi final defeat by Watford and a win against Leeds would keep them on course for their target of automatic promotion this season.
Leeds also had to come from behind against Brighton in their opening game of the season after going behind to an early Leo Ulloa strike. The Whites were soon level through Ross McCormack and after knocking at the door for much of the second half, summer signing Luke Murphy capped a memorable debut by netting the winner in the dying moments. Former Reading manager Brian McDermot is now at the helm of Leeds United and will be aiming to better the Yorkshire club’s mid-table finish last season and challenge for the play-offs with a trip to promotion chasers Leicester providing them with a tough test on Sunday.
