Liverpool match record
After Cody Cakpo scored a brace, Mohamed Salah netted a penalty and Luis Diaz added the 4th, it has been revealed that the Reds matched a record on Thursday.
Liverpool have won their first 10 home matches in a season in all competitions for a fourth time, also doing so in 1893-94 (first 16), 1972-73 (11) and 1985-86 (13).
Following the game, Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Liverpool should have won by an even more convincing scoreline against LASK:
“It’s a good feeling to win the group and it’s really helpful to us,” he told reporters after the final whistle. “We are going to Union to play proper football but we can forget about the outcome.
“Two top results for us tonight in the group. With the defeat at Toulouse, we made it a bit more tricky if you want. But with our result and their result, we are now top of the table and that will not change. That is good. Very important, very important in the busy busy schedule we have from now on.
“A lot of positives in the game, a lot of good football. The thing I didn’t like too much, and I told the boys enough times already, this game should have been put to bed already at half-time. Third, fourth, fifth goal. You cannot play better, you cannot set up better. We can finish it better, obviously, but we didn’t. What was it when we scored the third? 50-something? That was very helpful as well.
“Then we made changes and lost a bit of rhythm. You see immediately if you don’t play and stay in charge of the game really, you lose balls in the wrong moment, LASK was there. They had chances. Caoimh worked for his clean sheet, which he desperately wanted, and that is good. We scored the fourth goal in the last minute. Result top, performance, really good. Nobody got injured. All good.”
