Liverpool Place Huge Bet On Andy Carroll
Newcastle United predictably sold their biggest asset yesterday and owner Mike Ashley would be delighted to have achieved a fee of £35M for the 22 year old target man .
Carroll has been in great form for the Magpies this season and was linked with a £22M move to Spurs before Christmas . He has supposedly been injured most of January but was certainly fit enough to pass a medical at Liverpool FC last night and his move does not reflect well on Newcastle manager Alan Pardew who has insisted from the day he took over in early December that the England striker would not be sold .
Bookmakers have reacted by cutting the odds on Newcastle been relegated this season as they face the remainder of the season without their talisman .
For Liverpool the signing of Carroll represents a desperate attempt to turn their season around and still qualify for European football next season . Having sold the mis-firing Fernando Torres for £50M , Liverpool have re-invested all of the money on Carroll and Luis Suarez and apparently had a £14M offer for Blackpool’s Charlie Adams turned down .
Carroll often made the news for the wrong reasons in 2010 . The new Liverpool striker was charged with assaulting his girlfriend , admitted glassing a drinker in a Newcastle nightclub and had his Range Rover torched whilst staying at club captain Kevin Nolans house in an eventful few months .
Carroll will be looking to add to his tally of 11 premier league goals this season and could make his Liverpool debut away to Chelsea this Sunday . At odds of 28/1 with Irish bookie Paddy Power to be top Premier League scorer this season , Carroll is decent each way value as 1/5 odds 1-2-3 still pays over 5/1 for a place . Carroll is currently third , with 1 goal more than Didier Drogba .
Ladbrokes offer odds of 5/6 that Carroll scores over 5.5 goals in the remainder of what should be a fascinating season .
