Manchester United are still in the market for a new midfielder this year, as they seek a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick, with the club captain set to retire at the end of the season.
Belgium international Marouane Fellaini has also been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, as Jose Mourinho looks to oversee a new central midfielder in the coming months.
The Red Devils recently snapped up Alexis Sanchez from Premier League rivals Arsenal, and they could soon lure one of the Chilean’s international teammates too.
Man Utd have long been tipped to pounce for midfield enforcer Arturo Vidal, along with a host of other top-flight sides, and Bayern Munich have now given them the green light to swoop for his signature.
According to German publication Bild, Bayern are now happy to sell Vidal in the summer after recently securing the acquisition of Leon Goretzka from Schalke.
Chelsea have also been in the hunt for Vidal, with Italian coach Antonio Conte having made public his desire to secure a reunion with his former Juventus star at Stamford Bridge.
But, following recent remarks made regarding failed transfers at the Blues, the Chelsea hierarchy are far from happy with Conte, leaving his future uncertain in north London.
That gives Mourinho in the upper hand in the pursuit of Vidal for now, as the Portuguese tactician aims to bolster his United ranks further in the coming months.
