Manchester United are in search of a high-profile replacement for club captain Michael Carrick, who is set to retire at the end of the current season.
The former England international is reportedly set to join Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff in some aspect when he finally hangs up his boots after over a decade at Old Trafford.
With such a composed midfielder and experienced figure in the dressing room ready to depart the squad on a playing basis, the Red Devils need a suitable replacement.
Mourinho now has his eye on one particular star from Real Madrid, a midfield passmaster that would be gladly welcomed by the United fans this summer for sure.
It’s now being reported that Man Utd are hoping to lure Germany international midfielder Toni Kroos from the Bernabeu to the Premier League in the coming months.
Securing the signing of such an illustrious anchorman, who has lifted both the Champions League and World Cup in his career already, would be a huge coup for Mourinho.
It’s believed that the Portuguese tactician wants Kroos as part of a midfield trio at the club, alongside both France playmaker Paul Pogba and Serbian enforcer Nemanja Matic.
The Red Devils came close to clinching Kroos’ signature back in 2014, only for the Galacticos to swoop and steal him away for just £20 million.
But the German metronome is high on the club’s priority list for the summer, as they attempt to boost their prospects further and compete with neighbours Manchester City domestically.
