Manchester City injury update

Before hosting RB Leipzig, Pep Guardiola provided an injury update on his team following a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at the weekend.

It is bad news on the John Stones front as the defender looks set to miss out vs RB Leipzig and potentially at the weekend vs Tottenham:

“He feels good but we want to give him one or two weeks to have proper strength training sessions. John is so important for us, I like him playing when he’s completely ready,” said Guardiola.

“He’s going to train, partially or complete, with us. His legs especially, to be sure that when he comes back he is stronger. And we then use him, we need him. I’m really pleased with Manu, in the way he plays in those positions.

Pep also provided updates on Rico Lewis and Matteo Kovacic: “We need them. John a little bit longer. Mateo is not a big issue but he’s still out. Sergio is back. It’s what it is,” he said. “We had two goalkeepers on the bench.

“Rico is ready, he can play five positions and we are going to use him on Tuesday. I don’t complain. You see the team, how aggressive they are.”
