Manchester United injury boost before Sheffield United

Late last week, Manchester United looked to lose a key star to injury as Casemiro started for Brazil in their third World Cup 2026 qualifier at home to Venezuela in Cuiaba on Friday before being forced off after 11 minutes.

Brazil’s caretaker boss, Fernando Diniz, revealed that the 31-year-old requested to be taken off due to an ankle problem:

“He asked to come off due to a blow to his ankle,” Diniz told the media.

This seemed to suggest that Casemiro would be out of action for the trip to Sheffield later this week. However, Casemiro eased concerns about his ankle injury after starting Brazil’s 2-0 defeat to Uruguay in their 2026 World Cup qualifier in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Whilst Casemiro appears fit enough to feature this weekend, Erik ten Hag recently confirmed that Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are all long-term absentees, leaving Sergio Reguilon and Diogo Dalot as United’s only fit full-backs.
