Manchester United injury update

Here is all the latest Manchester United injury news before they face Newcastle.

Casemiro continues to struggle with an ankle injury picked up during the last international break.

He was back in training ahead of the win over FC Copenhagen, a game in which he was suspended, but missed out against Manchester City. The Brazilian is expected to return on Wednesday.

There were fears Raphael Varane had picked up another knock when Jonny Evans was selected ahead of him to face City, but Erik ten Hag instead confirmed it was a tactical decision: “I said it from the beginning, I need the players on the left side who can make angles and also to step in and, especially against City, with the side they press us you have to step in to get the press on them and I think they did this very well.”

Whilst an odd decision from Ten Hag, Varane is expected to be back in the XI vs Newcastle.

Sergio Reguilon was back in the squad to face City, but did not start after playing just over an hour against Copenhagen with his match fitness still lacking after an injury layoff. He should be in contention on Wednesday.

Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka will both miss out this week, with a return date of November 26 touted for both men.

Finally, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia are long-term absentees, with the latter out until December and Martinez out until 2024.
