Manchester City injury latest

Manchester City faced off with Young Boys in a midweek Champions League clash, and had two injury concerns coming out of the game in John Stones and Manuel Akanji.

Speaking after Tuesday’s game, Pep Guardiola said that John Stones will be out for some time, and said he ‘feels sorry’ for the defender. The manager added that fellow defender Manu Akanji was a last-minute withdrawal from the starting line-up on Tuesday with a back injury, rather than the illness that was initially communicated:

“Well, Manu had a problem in his back. John felt it again,” Guardiola told TNT Sports. “I feel so sorry for him. It’s a big loss for us. John is so important for what he does. But recover and the season is long; he will be back stronger. I think he will be out for a while.”

In his press conference, Guardiola added on Stones: “It’s muscular, will be a while out. A pity for him, incredible professional. A pity and bad news for us.”

On Akanji, Guardiola expressed hoped that the Swiss defender wouldn’t be out for long, saying: “It happened in training, he looks like he 75 years old. He could not play. That’s why Kyle replaced him. Hopefully not a big issue and he will be ready for Sunday.”

Erling Haaland was initially a doubt to face Young Boys with an injury of his own but started the tie and scored two. Back Haaland to score anytime vs Chelsea at 10/11 with bet365.
