Betting on the 2014 Investec Derby may be dominated by Qipco 2000 Guineas third Australia who is no bigger than evens to win the colt’s Classic a week on Saturday but the Investec Oaks, highlight of next Friday’s card, has a much more open look to it as current favourite Taghrooda who shot the the head of the market with an impressive victory in Newmarket’s Pretty Polly Stakes earlier this month continues to drift ( 5-2 now available ) as more horses enter the Epsom picture.
Taghrooda looked a potential Oaks winner after winning that race at headquarters on her seasonal reapearance but the form has since taken a knock with the second, third and fourth disappointing subsequently while her nearest market rival Marvellous ran out a comfortable three length winner of Sunday’s Irish 1000 Guineas at the Curragh. Available at 20-1 before that Classic success the Aidan O’Brien-trained filly could still be backed at 10-1 for Epsom later that day but such has been the support for the daughter of Galileo that 5-1 is now the best price on offer and available with Skybet, Betfred, Betvictor and Ladbrokes.
Third favourite Tarfasha, in the same ownership as Taghrooda, is a general 6-1 chance but Sheikh Hamdan’s racing manger Angus Gold issued a word of caution, saying: ” We will have to keep an eye on the weather because if the ground is soft there would have to be a doubt over whether we run Tarfasha. It is still ten day’s away and a lot can change, it could stop raining, so we will keep a watching brief.” Qipco 1000 Guineas third Ihtimal has the best form on offer and can be backed at 15-2 with 888.sport due to doubts regarding her stamina while other expected runners include Musidora Stakes winner Madame Chiang and Marsh Daisy, although the latter will need to be supplemented.
