Arsenal dealt injury blow

As well as losing to West Ham, Arsenal were dealt an injury blow on Wednesday as Emile Smith Rowe is now set to be out for some time.

When asked if there is any time scale on a return for Smith Rowe, Arteta said post-match: “No. He’s got an injury in his knee and he’s going to be out for weeks.”

Arteta also spoke out on his disappointment at his side’s display vs the Hammers: “First of all I’m disappointed in myself because I wanted play a certain way and we haven’t managed to do that. Every time you lose a game the pain is there. We have to use this pain for Saturday that’s for sure.

“There are no messages to send. Whatever messages we send we send them with words. We don’t have to send them in a different way.

“We have tried to put a team that we believed was the best to compete today and in the right way to start the game. The game took a direction obviously because of the first goal - and we can discuss that. After that we still have to see much more from the team to earn the right to win here.”
