Mikel Arteta told to drop key man

Before facing Sevilla, Arsenal were in Premier League action vs Chelsea this past Saturday. The Gunners headed into the game unbeaten in the league and only off top spot due to goals scored.

As a result, Mikel Arteta’s side were expected to see off an inconsistent Chelsea with relative ease. However, when all was said and done, the points were shared.

Arsenal went 2-0 down but were handed a way back into the tie thanks to a Robert Sanchez error before Leandro Trossard scored an equaliser after 84 minutes.

Following the game, Oleksandr Zinchenko has come in for heavy criticism from fans online. Having picked up an early yellow card for a foul on Mykhailo Mudryk, the left-back looked vulnerable in every 1v1 duel with Raheem Sterling thereafter and was withdrawn at half-time for Takehiro Tomiyasu.

As a result, some Arsenal supporters on X (formerly known as Twitter) have suggested that Tomiyasu should get a run in the side at left-back instead of Zinchenko, starting with Tuesday’s Champions League tie against Sevilla.

Some of the tweets in question are as follows: @hssnkirevu said: “I think Mikel should trust Tomiyasu over Zinchenko”, @ftblRK said: “Tomiyasu should be starting against Sevilla”, @afcprop said: “Tomiyasu has played his way to the starting XI. I hope he starts vs Sevilla.”
