Newmarket Tips - Saturday, October 14

Saturday is day two of the Dubai Future Champions Festival at Newmarket, with some fantastic racing to enjoy on the Rowley Mile, including the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes and 34 runners set to go to post for the Cesarewitch.

The going on the Rowley Mile is Soft, with sunny spells forecast on Saturday, and the opening race is at 1:35pm.

2:40pm Newmarket - The Shunter

The Shunter has been an excellent servant for connections, and having missed the Irish Cesarewitch, he looks a rock-solid bet to get in the mix in the Newmarket equivalent on Saturday.

Plenty high enough in the weights over obstacles, there’s every chance this race has been a long-term target for trainer Emmet Mullins.

The interesting piece of form was last year at Killarney, where The Shunter finished a staying on 3rd behind the 100-rated Cape Gentlemen, with Ruling in fourth, who is now rated 101.

A rating of 94 for The Shunter could underestimate his flat ability, and the eye-catching booking of James Doyle indicates a big run is expected.

3:50pm Newmarket - Silver Sword

Silver Sword has done nothing but improve this season, and there’s every chance he has some more improvement to come.

He’s won three times this season, including an impressive victory at York over 7 furlongs before finishing just over three lengths behind Chindit at Sandown.

That’s a solid piece of form, and it could be argued that if a more prominent trainer trained him, he would be half the price he currently is.

As it is, Dylan Cunha has done a tremendous job with Silver Sword, and he can get in the mix in a wide-open Darley Stakes.
