Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins MLB franchise, will play host to the Minnesota Wild and the St Louis Blues on New Year’s Day as the NHL goes outdoors for the 2022 Winter Classic.
The event is back after a year off, expect the NHL to put on a show, with millions watching all over the world.
NHL: Blues @ Wild 2022 Winter Classic Game Preview
While the NHL would love nothing more than a high-scoring thriller, the setup of these games often points towards a low scoring affair, while the style that both play also points to that too.
With this in mind, we may not see too many chances, especially early on, in what could be a slow start.
The two teams come here sitting first and second in the Central Division, St Louis are top with 41 points, Minnesota are just one behind them with two games in hand, so there is a lot to play for here.
Recently, both have won six of their last 10, there really isn’t much to split these two.
If you want to throw something else into the mix that will make this game a tight, low scoring encounter, the weather is expected to be very cold, in minus figures for the entire day.
St Louis Blues Fancied to Edge Close Game
Given how the Blues play, and their ability to shut down other teams, that could well give them an advantage here, and make them very difficult to beat on this unique ice surface.
The more this game opens up, the more chance Minnesota have, but we don’t think that will happen.
We are combining the St Louis Blues to win the game with under 5.5 goals, which is available at 4/1 with William Hill.
