Bookmakers have been busy compiling the odds on who will suceed Fabio Capello as next England manager after the shock announcement by Capello yesterday that he will stand down after Euro 2012 .
The appointment of the Italian manager as England boss was quite contentious two years ago and it is unlikely that the FA will appoint another foreigner as his replacement .
Bet365 offer just 1/4 that Capello’s successor will be an Englishman .
Harry Redknapp is the early favourite with the bookies and the Spurs boss who has a history of run in’s with the FA is best priced at 3/1 with Paddy Power. Redknapp would certainly fancy the job and yesterday admitted :"You’ve got to take the job if you get offered it ."
Current Sunderland manager Steve Bruce also threw his hat into the ring yesterday confirming that "It’s all about how I do with this team (Sunderland) over the next 18 months . It’s all about timing ."
The recent appointment of Roy Hodgson for the Liverpool job is the only reason that Hodgson is available at decent odds and surely Hodgson is better value at odds of 7/1 than Stuart Pearce at 8/1 with Victor Chandler .
Pearce who is currently running the Under-21 England team had only moderate success during his time in club management with Notts Forest and Manchester City whilst Hodgson has enjoyed success throughout his career in club and international football .
Expect the odds on Roy Hodgson to become the next permanent England manager to drop dramatically over the next couple of years .
