Opta’s AI supercomputer has crunched the numbers for their Premier League predictions following the latest round of games.
Manchester City were handed their first Premier League loss of the season on Saturday, falling to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wolves. Despite the loss, the Sky Blues remain top of the table and, according to Opta, have an 80.9 per cent chance of winning the league.
The top-four
Elsewhere at the top end of the table, Arsenal put Bournemouth to the sword to move within a point of 1st-place Manchester City. We also saw a controversial clash between two Premier League heavyweights in Tottenham and Liverpool.
Spurs came out on top vs a nine-man Liverpool side but the match was marred in controversy after VAR ruled out a clearly onside Liverpool goal.
Despite Liverpool arguably being robbed of three points at the weekend, Opta’s supercomputer still gives them a 40.2 per cent chance of finishing 2nd in the Premier League, whilst Arsenal have a 31.1 per cent chance of finishing 3rd and Tottenham sit 4th in the table with a 23.6 per cent chance of remaining in that position come the end of the campaign.
Relegation scrap
Luton Town picked up their first win of the season over the weekend, seeing off fellow strugglers Everton. Despite this, the supercomputer predicts the newly-promoted side will end the campaign in 18th place.
Joining the duo in the bottom three are Burnley and Sheffield United, both of whom are without a win this season. Bournemouth are also winless in 2023/24 but Opta predicts the Cherries will finish in 17th place.
