Paddy Power expansion to create more than 1400 new jobs
Irish bookmaker Paddy Power revealed a strong growth in group performance during the first half of the year which will lead to the creation of 1440 new jobs in Ireland, the UK and Australia.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Paddy Power said it would create 500 new jobs in Ireland, mainly at its site in Tallaght, West Dublin with 810 going to the UK and 130 more to Australia.
The company have recently expanded its operation to Australia and France and the news follows a profitable 2010 World Cup and increasing growth from its UK and Australian activities.
In the statement, the Dublin-based company announced a rise of 9 percent in its Irish retail business with turnover failing by 5 percent in the same period but they admitted economic conditions in Ireland have deteriorated since July.
Performance in the UK was much brighter where gross winnings had increased by 17 percent and Paddy Power’s online business in Australia leapt up by 70 percent.
Looking ahead to the company’s continued expansion, the statement said the new jobs will be in place by 2013.
