It’s the last day of darting action in 2021 as the PDC field squabble over eight quarter-final places.
Only eight men will return to the Ally Pally in 2022 looking to scoop darts’ most prized possession – the PDC Darts World Championship.
Who will edge closer to the Sid Waddell trophy after Thursday’s play?
We’ve got three tips across a trio of Thursday matches here:
Mervyn King -1.5 handicap v Raymond Smith @ 4/5 with bet365
Mervyn King has looked like a man at home on the Alexandra Palace oche.
The 55-year-old swept aside Steve Lennon 4-0 in the third round looking assured on his doubling and dangerous in the 60-bed.
Raymond Smith is a qualifier and could be out of his depth against King.
The Aussie has beaten Devon Petersen and Florian Hempel so far – no one with the calibre and experience of King.
A 4-0, 4-1 or 4-2 win for King looks safe enough.
Chris Dobey v Luke Humphries – Over 6.5 sets @ 9/4 with Paddy Power
Both Dobey and Humphries were handed a slice of good fortune in the third round, hurdling Michael van Gerwen and Dave Chisnall due to positive Covid-19 tests…
Neither have thrown a dart since before Christmas and will be dreaming of a quarter-final spot.
Humphries has reached the quarters twice before in 2019 and 2020 but will have his work cut out against Dobey.
These youngsters are both players for the future and it wouldn’t be surprised if this one goes all the way in a seven-set classic.
Peter Wright – Over 7.5 180s v Ryan Searle at 6/5 with Paddy Power
“Snakebite” avoided a mini-scare against Damon Heta in the previous round and looks like drama may follow him in the 2022 World Championships.
Ryan Searle is playing well enough to punish the former world champion, and in a match that could have plenty of legs in it, we fancy backing Wright’s power scoring.
Wright threw six maximums in the previous round and is more than capable of extending that tally on Thursday.
