PGA Championship Golf Tips

The PGA Championship gets underway tomorrow at Wentworth and this year promises to be very dramatic as changes to the course mean that previous course history may not be as important as usual .

Ultra consistent Lee Westwood heads the betting for Wentworth this week which is the only main Tour event to be held in England this year and is covered live on TV throughout the four days with Sky covering the initial two days and the BBC taking over from Saturday .
The course has been made more difficult this year with the 12th hole becoming a long Par 4 and a large ditch being placed in front of the traditionally easy 18th green .
This could make for an exciting week and it could well be worth taking on a few of the obvious contenders .
Lee Westwood an obvious bookies favourite has a poor record at Wentworth and has missed the cut in six of his last nine visits to the famous Virginia Water course . Rory McIlroy could win easily but he is very unpredictable and he is hugely inconsistent .
Ernie Els has a great record around Wentworth but he normally finds one or two too good for him and has not won this event in 14 attempts ! .
Of more interest is local boy Ross Fisher who was second in this event last year and has already performed to a very high level with four top 6 finishes so far this season and should now be in peak condition having rested since the Players Championship .
Fisher is available at 33/1 with Paddy Power who are offering superb each way value at 1/4 odds First Six .
Also worth a bet is the reliable Martin Kaymer who finished joint 11th last year and has shown signs of a return to last seasons terrific form in recent weeks .
The early 22/1 seems to have been cleaned up at Bet365 but Kaymer is worth following and the 20/1 again with 1/4 odds First Six is recommended .
Coverage starts 10am on Sky tomorrow .
