The Players Championship has reached the quarter-finals and we’re previewing the pick of the bunch on the baize

The Players Championship is lighting up Wolverhampton this week, with two tasty quarter-finals grabbing our attention on Thursday.

It’s Barry Hawkins v Yan Bingtao and Ronnie O’Sullivan v Neil Robertson and we’ve got a couple of tips to accompany the action on the baize:

Barry Hawkins v Yan Bingtao

“Tiger” Yan Bingtao was in a vicious mood on Monday as he rolled past David Gilbert 6-4.

The Chinese superstar racked up three centuries en route to this victory, as he looks to reach a fifth major semi-final this season after successes at the Northern Ireland Open, German Masters, Championship League and Champion of Champions.

Barry Hawkins blew hot and cold against Zhao Xintong but should still be credited with a gutsy victory – some audacious pots sealed the deal including a lengthy attempt with the spider.

Bingtao is in terrific rhythm with the cue and scorers should expect to get their abacus’ out once more as he attacks three-figure breaks.

Bingtao to register two more centuries in this match is priced well.

Ronnie O’Sullivan v Neil Robertson

Ronnie O’Sullivan was back to his rocket-powered best on Tuesday as he swept past the in-form Judd Trump.

The “Rocket” has lost three of his last four meetings with Neil Robertson and will be aware of the form the Australian is enjoying.

Robertson – 2022’s Masters winner – rattled home two centuries before finishing Kyren Wilson off 6-4 and looks relaxed at the table.

O’Sullivan’s talented don’t need to be emphasised, but Robertson is playing with a confidence that makes an Evens shot worth great value.
