Possibly the biggest game in English football , today’s Premier League clash between Manchester United and Liverpool is certainly the most important game of the campaign so far for both teams .
New Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has yet to get the best out of his players and only one win in their opening four Premier League games is not good enough for Liverpool and they have been fortunate in some of those games .
Speculation continues over the future of star striker Fernando Torres who has looked a shadow of his former self so far this season . Whilst most Liverpool supporters understand he is still finding his fitness and form following injuries at the back end of last season and again in the World Cup final he received a great deal of flak following his sides 0-0 draw with Birmingham, a performance described by Sky Pundit Jamie Redknapp as “diabolical”.
Man Utd are undefeated so far in the Premier League but will not be happy with two draws meaning they are already four points behind leaders Chelsea and United need a victory to maintain the early pressure on their London rivals .
As usual much of the focus will be on Wayne Rooney who was left out of the United side for last weekend’s game at Everton and Rooney had a quiet game against Rangers midweek .
This fixture however is sure to see Rooney back to his best and he is 6/5 with Paddy Power to score at anytime in today’s game . The Irish bookmaker is also top price about Rooney scoring the first goal of the match at 4/1 and there will be plenty of interest at that price .
Liverpool have struggled for some time now in the Premiership and last season’s seventh position is a fair reflection of their ability . The Reds seem unlikely to finish much higher than seventh this season and their squad is vastly inferior to the players Alex Ferguson has at his disposal .
United should win comfortably today and the unusual odds of 3/4 should be taken with either Victor Chandler or Paddy Power .
