Premier League Transfer News: Real President Perez Says Mourinho Transfer Target Gerrard Is Too Old
Former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager Jose Mourinho has always admired Liverpool’s midfield ace Steven Gerrard and tried to sign him while in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Rumours have been rife since his appointment as Real Madrid coach in June that Mourinho would launch another bid for Gerrard after the World Cup.
Debate over Gerrard’s Anfield future has continued since the club failed to qualify for Champions League football and the departure of manager Rafa Benitez. Links between Madrid and Gerrard have been surfacing in the press throughout the World Cup.
But, Real Madrid’s transfer consultant Ernesto Bronzetti says the club has ruled out a move due to the Liverpool captain’s age and valuation.
He told Italian radio that despite Mourinho wanting to sign a player in the mould of Gerrard, Real president Floretino Perez has no interest in pursuing the signature of England’s World Cup captain.
Talking of the club’s plans, Bonzetti revealed to GR Parlamento: “Mourinho is convinced to leave Sergio Ramos on the right and now he wants a central defender or midfielder like Gerrard.”
He added: “Kaka will stay at Real, but the president does not agree with Gerrard because he is 30 and Perez doesn’t want to know, “Plus, Liverpool asked for 70m euros.”
Irish bookmaker Paddy Power is offering 5/1 for Real Madrid to win 2101/11 Champions League trophy.
