Punters Abandon Reckless Doncaster Nap
Reckless Abandon is the top newpaper tip but bookmakers are more than happy to lay Charley Appleby’s four-year-old on the opening day of the Leger meeting at Doncaster today.
A scan of the naps table shows no less than eight of nation’s newspaper tipsters have gone for Reckless Abandon, favourite in the John Smith’s Original Scarbrough Stakes over the minimum trip. Adam Kirby’s mount opened at 15/8 and 2/1 this morning but has drifted in the market to a general 9/4 with Betfred going top price 5/2.
The son of Exchange Rate has proved difficult to train but a reproduction of his seasonal debut in a Newmarket Listed race gives him strong claims in a similar race today. The owners gave the colt a spell at stud and the fact that he has not won a race in almost two years will be putting punters off taking short odds.
Freebets.com tipster Alan Kelly highlighted the claims of Mecca’s Angel yesterday and Michael Dods’ three-year-old came in for overnight support, down from 15/2 to 6/1 on BetVictor leaving Ladbrokes and 888sport top price at 7/1.
Two more contenders have been supported in the market this morning. The lightly raced filly Online Alexander has been backed from 8/1 to 13/2 with Boylesports and while Paddy and BetVictor also trimmed the odds of Jamie Spencer’s mount, there is still plenty of 8/1 about.
Frankie Dettori rides B Fifty Two for trainer Charlie Hills and the recent Chester winner has been backed across the board, all the early 12/1 has gone and best price is now 10/1.
