Leeds United and Norwich City have surprisingly been fancied for back-to-pack promotions this season, with both clubs preparing for their returns to the Championship this weekend.
After coming up from from League One, Paddy Power has reported big backing for the promoted pair to make a return to the Premier League, with the duo being cut to 18/1 for the nPower Championship title.
Paddy Power have also put Leeds, who will have to do without the goals of Jermaine Beckford after he moved to Everton, at 11/2 for promotion – ahead of League One champions Norwich at 6/1. Only favourites Middlesbrough (13/2 best price with bwin) have had a bigger backing from punters, according to the Irish bookie.
Paddy Power spokesman Darren Haines said: "The Championship is its usual ultra-competitive mix of teams hoping to find a way into the Premier League but it’s also a division where momentum is key and punters seem to fancy Leeds and Norwich to carry their League One form into another successful season."
That support hasn’t been reflected in the overall market however, with Paddy making Nottingham Forest their second favourites at 15/2, with Burnley next in line at 10/1.
It’s a ‘Boro player who also leads the top goal scorer market, with former Rangers striker Kris Boyd reportedly taking 28% of the book, ahead of Bristol City’s Nicky Maynard at 14/1 and Cardiff’s Michael Chopra at 10/1.
