It’s High Time and Streets of New York are the two tussling for favouritism in the 2 mile handicap hurdle at 2.10 Musselburgh. The former had useful form in bumpers and has quickly made up into a smart hurdler after winning and placing at Hexham, but a fall in between those efforts tempers the enthusiasm. The latter is a winner on the level and has shown fair form over hurdles, but last won a race in this code way back in 2011 and it’s hard to get excited about either of the pair at such short odds.
The one which looks to have slipped under the radar here is Avidity, a 6/1 chance with Skybet. The bay gelding put in a couple of solid runs in bumpers for Philip Kirby including a win at Doncaster in March 2013 and quickly got the hang of things over hurdles. A respectable fourth from sixteen runners on his hurdling debut over today’s trip at Newcastle in November 2013 (Good) was followed by winning in Novice company at Ayr (Heavy) in March the following year.
Having impressed on both of those efforts over today’s distance, 6-year-old Avidity is open to further progress and being lightly raced will have the advantage of going fresh against a few of these rivals.
Teo Vivo is another who could get involved after a trio of good efforts since being fitted with blinkers, but an 11lb rise could rule him out at the business end and Avidity has a good chance of taking this at a decent price.
