In-form trainer Richard Fahey should be among the winners today with 20 runners up and down the country and Garswood is one with a strong chance in the Timeform Jury Stakes at 2.40 Haydock.
The North Yorkshire-based handler takes a strong team to the Merseyside course where Justonefortheroad (1.30), Garswood and Parbold (3.50) look likely to go off favourite while Skye’s The Limit is second best in the 4.25 betting market.
Garswood ran at the highest level as a three-year-old and was favourite to make a winning return in the bet365 mile at Sandown in April but finished a well-beaten fifth behind Tullius. On a day when nothing came off the pace, the son of Dutch Art found the soft ground and the stiff mile trip too much of a test on his seasonal debut.
Conditions at Haydock will be much more to the four-year-old’s liking where the seven furlong trip and slightly better going will suit him perfectly and he can bounce back at a decent price, generally available at 7/2 including bet365 with best odds guarantee and price promise.
The colt registered his last win in similar conditions over Goodwood’s seven furlong course when beating Caspar Netscher in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes last July and he should be good enough to see him return to the winner’s enclosure at Haydock today. He’s highly regarded at home and ran in the 2000 Guineas, the Jersey Stakes, the Sprint Cup and the Prix de la Foret at Longchamp, in which he was an excellent third behind Moonlight Cloud.
