10 Horses have been declared for Saturday’s Grade 1 888Sport Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown headed by the first two horses home in Exeter’s Vix Technology Haldon Gold Cup last month, Gods Own and Balder Succes, but it’s a horse who pulled up with a broken blood vessel in that two mile one and a half furlong contest who is taken to put that form behind him at the weekend, rewarding backers at the 16-1 available with William Hill.
Hinterland, the horse in question, was sent off a strongly fancied 10-3 chance at Exeter, a shorter price than the two market leaders for Sandown’s two mile test of speed and jumping, but the six-year-old was never travelling and it is worth putting a line through that run, concentrating instead on the son of Poliglote’s form at this time last year when winning twice at the Esher track including at this meeting when beating the talented Grandouet in the Grade 1 Racing Post Henry VIII Novices’ Chase.
The Paul Nicholls inmate was good for more than his neck victory over Saturday’s course and distance as he appeared to idle on the run in, form which now looks even stronger with the third horse home Taquin Du Seuil going on to land the JLT Chase at the Festival while the reopposing Balder Succes finished a well beaten fifth some 23 lengths behind the winner. Alan King’s six-year-old has obviously left that form behind subsequently while God’s Own is due plenty of respect after impressive victories at Punchestown and Exeter but with the pair priced at 9-4 and 7-2 respectively the value has to lie with the mount of Noel Fehily whose form at Sandown, 2-1-1 entitles him to go close if showing his true form on this occasion.
The selections stable companion Dodging Bullets will need to improve upon his two runs this season if he is to play a part while Oscar Whisky is surely better over a further half a mile. Harry Fry’s Vukovar has been the subject of plenty of support this week but is now short enough at 8-1 on what he has achieved while the evergreen Somersby’s better days are probably behind him.
