Real Madrid monitoring Liverpool’s Joe Gomez

While Real Madrid have placed Kylian Mbappe at the top of their transfer shopping list, that is not the only target they have in mind and with manager Carlo Ancelotti previously swapping Everton for Real Madrid, it is once again Merseyside where his attention is currently fixed.

However, it is no longer the blue half that is of interest but the red and with Joe Gomez currently being displaced in the Liverpool starting eleven, the current La Liga table toppers are weighing up a move next summer.

There is no doubt that Gomez can hold his own in the Liverpool defence and when fit, he is a more than able partner for Virgil van Dijk. Then again, fitness has been in short supply in recent times, and this coupled with the arrival of Ibrahima Konate, has seen his playing opportunities diminished.

After recovering from a terrible knee injury last season, the England international has suffered with calf and groin issues during the first half of this season and this has been a visible point of frustration for the 24-year-old.

With three and half years still left on his existing Liverpool contract, the club’s board will certainly be under no pressure to sell, and they would not entertain any bids that could be received at the start of next year.

Fast forward a few months and the situation could be rather different and if Gomez fails to break back into the Liverpool first team on a regular basis, then a move to Real Madrid may seem rather appealing.
