While Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva have been rewarded with new deals, City are happy to make the 23-year-old Sterling wait.
Real’s president, Florentino Perez, is keen to have a big spending summer to catch up rivals Barcelona – opening the chequebook to bring the world’s best talent flocking to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Zinedine Zidane has already admitted he is an admirer of the City forward and few can resist the pull of Madrid. Sterling is rumoured to be currently on around £180,000-a-week, but will demand a significant increase after developing into one of the league’s premier talents.
Reports suggest Guardiola’s is eager to tie the England winger down to a longer-term contract, while in the meantime the Spanish giants circle.
Sterling’s arrival in Madrid could mean the end for Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, both of whom have come under recent criticism by Madridistas.
